so i updated my site adamisageek.com.
really just tweaked the fonts and layouts to make me look cooler.
also, i finished a new wallpapers page and i added enough to the games page to show it. check it out and let me know what you think via electronic mail. i think i’ll start saying that instead of “email”. “Hey Brian, can you electronic mail me the new Pre-Approved Bid sheet?”
also,
at this point my adamisageek.com/blog page just forwards to this adamisageek.tumblr.com blog. i’d really like to have the blog independently on my site, but i can’t find an easy way to do so with my minimal web site programming knowledge. also, tumblr’s posting tools are easy to use and look nice with minimal amount of effort on my end. i’ll keep looking for some easy to use blogging web site mumbo jumbo to use on my site.
have any suggestions on good ways to put my blog on my site? let me know at blog@adamisageek.com.

Ok kids, so you’re in Erie and you feel like goin out with some friends and gettin a few brewskies in you, here’s a few rules to follow for partying at some of my choice Erie bars…you might thank me later.
-
Cell Block - “I did what last night?”. Go here to get hammered and forget your persistant values and morals against taking home a drunk girl from the bar. Huge dance floor, tons of space to walk around, large circle bar in the middle and small circle bar near the front. Come to Cell Block for the specials, the drunk girls, and the craziness, don’t come for the atmosphere. Although in the summer its nice to stand out on the patio and have a beer or two before it gets late and crazy.
-
Boardwalk - “something for everyone”. Boardwalk is split up into four sections, even though all four are rarely open at the same time. There’s a regular bar downstairs by the front door, a big room dance club inside, a “dress shirt lounge” upstairs, and a huge Tiki bar outside called “Coconut Joe’s”. Hot girls, different music in every section, overall, usually a fun place no matter what the situation. Go for a few drinks in the bar, get crazy in the dance club, chill out and chat in the lounge, or hang out with friends and enjoy the nice weather outside. That is, if Erie had nice weather of course.
-
Plymouth - “Nice casual hang-out”. People don’t [usually] go to Plymouth to get hammered, people go there for a place where they can sit in a booth with some friends, eat free peanuts, and chat about whatever while the waitress keeps bringing $1 imports over. Even if you plan on drinking your liver away later in the night, Plymouth is a great place to start/pregame. Some nights it gets a little packed, but it can still be a fun bar that doesn’t require you to physically yell to talk to the person next to you. Just be sure to get there at a decent hour, since all their specials end at 11pm instead of midnight like most other bars. I actually like this idea, since at 11:01pm everyone leaves to catch another bar’s special til midnight. This way you can either stay at Plymouth for a quiet hangout, or head to the next bar with everyone else grabbing the next special for the night. Overall one of my fav bars.
-
Peccadillo’s - “Fun when you’re young”. If you’ve lived in Erie since you were 17 and you’ve been drinking alcohol since before then too, you probably know about Peccadillo’s “Teen Night” or “College ID Night”. For those that don’t, basically, Peccadillo’s lets anyone 18+ years old in upstairs for the night every Wednesday. You can’t get any alcohol upstairs, you have to go downstairs (must be 21 to do so) for that, but that doesn’t matter to most Peccadillo’s patrons on a Wednesday night. It doesn’t matter to them, because when you’re 18 and a club is going to let you in until 2am, you do what we’ve all done, you drink at home or a friends house, then head there already drunk. When you’re 18, 19, or 20, this is the funnest thing you do all week, and its the thing you look forward to every week. Pecadillo’s is a somewhat nice bar, there’s 3 main areas upstairs; the main huge dance floor, a long bar with some booths to sit down, and a huge “U” shaped bar in the back with some pool tables, chairs and tables, and even a couple couches to sit at. The downstairs consists of a smaller dance floor, a long bar, and a few pool tables in the side room. The main bad thing about that place is that the side bar and back bar take up the whole bar area, so most people end up standing at or near the bar itself, a situation I like to call “The Calamari’s Effect” which you can read about below.
-
Sherlock’s / Park Place - “Skittles and a t-bone steak separated by a pool table”. Park Place and Sherlock’s are essentially the same bar, and they’re both located in the same building, but they’re kind of split into two different…areas, I guess. And the two sides are very different from the other. Each side has its own door, but you can walk from one to the other without going outside. On the Park Place side they play mostly rap, club beats, and remixes and its always packed on quarter draft night with local college students so it has a club feel to it. Once you walk past the dance floor area of the Park Place side, there’s a middle area with a couple pool tables and a nice large projector showing sports of some sort at all times. Then you walk a few feet further and viola, you’re in an alternative/rock bar that has live bands often. Most of the bands that play aren’t my type, usually being alternative or cover bands, but a couple were nice to listen to, including my uncle’s well known Erie band. Overall not a bad bar(s), but sometimes gets packed easily.
-
Calamari’s - “clusterfuck”. I’m not a fan of Calamari’s, although they are one of few bars in Erie to have a ping pong table. Game tables aside, Calamari’s downstairs [and mostly used] area is one giant rectangle room. Take a piece of paper, fold it lengthwise (like a hot dog bun), now color the left side of the crease red, and the right side blue. The entire red portion of the paper is a bar. Not just the main bar, the only bar, so if you want a drink, you have to push through three layers of people sitting or standing at the bar. Some nights it can get really annoying and for this reason I usually choose not going to Calamari’s on a busy night. Maybe on a weekday, sure, but never on a Friday or Saturday night.
-
Nicky’s - “if Cell Block had a degenerate daughter and everything was a dollar”. Nicky’s has a “dollar almost everything” special every night. This includes all cheap liquers and beers, so you could get a beer and a shot for you and four of your friends for ten bucks, not including a tip. This is the place to go to start/pregame if you plan on getting hammered. It’s not the cleanest bar around, but there is a nice sized dance floor, bar, and sitting area near the door. I guess my main dislike of Nicky’s is that the dollar special tends to bring in everyone that just wants the dollar special, so there tends to be some…”riff raff” at times. Sorry for using “riff raff” in a sentence, but “riff raff” is just what I needed to say, no matter how harsh “riff raff” is. “riff raff”. Funny terms aside, its a decent, low cost place to get your buzz on, just don’t expect the funnest time or the hottest girls of the night.
-
Molly Branigan’s - “expensive Irish comfort” I really like Molly Branigan’s I just don’t like how much drinks cost. I got a draft once and I think it was $5, however, it was a Stella. Molly’s is an expensive Irish bar, but they have three very nice full sized leather sofas set up around a large working fireplace. Be careful not to fall asleep next to the fire, its a common happening there. Molly’s also has nice little “pseudo dividers” between the tables so you can easily carry on a conversation with a friend without hearing others’ conversations or them hearing yours. Molly’s also has some light live jazz playing from time to time, which is a nice twist from the usual rap and club music played at most bars. Great bar, perfect atmostphere if you don’t want to party hard, but can be pretty expensive.
I gotta get back to work so Imma wrap this up…
If you or someone you’re with is planning on getting obliterated on booze, you might want to start somewhere cheap but with a club atmosphere to get your mood right like Nicky’s or Park Place on quarter draft night, then head to a loud dance club like Cell Block or inside Boardwalk. Plus, if you’re tight on money, “not so clean” places like Nicky’s and Cell Block aren’t surprised by people that don’t leave a hefty tip (or none at all). On the other hand, if you’re just lookin to have a fun night out with some friends for some laughs, you could start out at somewhere less loud and more inviting like Plymouth, then mosey over to Boardwalk’s “Coconut Joe’s” bar if its nice out and maybe Sherlock’s to watch a band if its not nice out. Sherlock’s will be more loud obviously, but sometimes a loud live band is different (and better) than a loud rap DJ. And lastly, if you’re lookin to have an almost quiet few hours with some friends and don’t plan on drinking much at all, I’d say start at Plymouth again, but afterward head over to Molly Branigans and enjoy the nice fireplace. Plus their high priced drinks will keep your amount of alcohol intake down.
In conclusion, its important to plan out your night sometimes for an awesome time. Do so and decide the best next step for the night. Sometimes planning isn’t useful and its best to just let the night take you where it might, and for that, hopefully my thoughts on some Erie bars above will help out. And remember, always tip your bartender well and they’ll keep your glass full.
Above all else, smile and laugh with friends often. Because this is what makes a great night.
And always make weird faces for anyone taking a picture.
